Bad smells in the kitchen: how can we get rid of them
We cook delicious dishes, share meals, laugh, live... but the kitchen can become a genuine bad smell factory! Between the cooking stench and risky areas, we have natural and 100% healthy tricks for an air that is both pure and nice to breath in.
In the kitchen
You boiled a few cauliflower florets or fried some zucchini? The meal will be delicious but the smell from its preparation is not. Begin with cleaning the room and opening some windows. If it is really cold out or the smell just won’t go away, boil a bit of white vinegar without covering the pot for a few minutes. If the vinegar’s acidity bothers you, replace it with water or pineapple juice with some herbs (thyme or rosemary, cinnamon stick, cloves, dried orange peels...).
In the fridge
Cheese lovers, melon lovers... no need to avoid your favourite smell foods! For a clean fridge, you need to clean it entirely every now and again but for daily maintaining, put some smell absorbents and neutralizer on the shelves: baking soda or coffee ground in a small dish – to change regularly –, or even half a lemon decorated with some cloves.
In the microwave
If a food with a stubborn smell took hold of your microwave, simply heat up some lemon juice inside for 30 seconds to 1 minute. It also works with a bowl of water and some essential oil drops (lemon, lavender, eucalyptus, tea tree...), by always respecting the respective precautionary measures.
In the sink
Sometimes, the smell comes from the sink. Are you looking for a cheap, efficient and chemical-free solution? Stop throwing away your used coffee ground! Sprinkle it on top of the exhaust duct and slowly pour a rather large quantity of boiling water on top.
