Mushrooms at home - To become the mushroom champion, why not grow them at home? With the ready-to-use kits, we can become gardeners… in our kitchen, and validate the saying “it mushrooms”. But how does it work exactly? And who has given it a try?
WHAT’S IN THERE?
A substrate: coffee ground, sawdust or a mix of both and mushroom mycelium (the underground part allowing their growth). The carton box makes the ensemble easier to transport and to grow without specific material.
HOW DOES IT GROW?
With water and patience! First, you need the best place to put them: away from direct sunlight but with light and no draught. Water for about ten days before seeing the hat grow…
REMEMBER TO...
Never put it in direct sunlight and in an draught. The soil must always be humid without being soaked.
AND THE HARVEST?
Well maintained, we can hope for 2 to 3 harvests of about 500g with the same kit. Once the harvests over, the mushrooms transform the substrate into a great natural fertilizer to use for your pots or in your garden.
A good way to initiate kids to agriculture but also useful to see if we have green fingers before jumping into building an actual vegetable garden…
